Keeping Families Together at Christmas

Everyone wants to be together with their loved ones at Christmas, we're all feeling that this year in particular.

For people living with a life limiting illness though, the prospect of what Christmas will look like and how they will manage can be frightening.

Many of our patients have just one Christmas wish - to be in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by loved ones. The chance to make final memories that will last a lifetime for their families.

In the run up to Christmas you can make a difference in helping as many of our patients and their loved ones make those memories.

In this short film, our Community Nurse Specialist Emma shares how she helps patients stay at home for Christmas.

The impact of your support

One family that Emma is currently supporting to stay together this Christmas are Bob and Harriet, and their two boys aged four and seven. Bob and Harriet share their story about why this Christmas is so important to them.

No matter what the time of year, everyone living with a life limiting illness deserves a choice of where to be treated. Our supporters make this possible, already this year they've enabled:

6,770 visits by Community Nurse Specialists to patients' homes
19,415 hours of personalised care in patients' homes by our Hospice at Home team
2,710 calls to be answered and actioned from patients and those that care for them

Providing this level of care is so important but costly, and the pandemic means we are facing a £2million deficit - which puts vital care at risk.

Please help more families to spend their last Christmas at home

£18 could pay for a call to our 24hr Clinical Advice Line to help a patient or family member needing expert guidance.

£49 could help a patient be as pain-free as possible over the Christmas bank holidays funding the cost of pharmacy and drugs.

£291 could enable a Community Nurse Specialist to make one visit and support a patient in their own home.
